About Me
I've always loved music, and theater. When I was younger, I thought for sure that I would be a musical actress. My favorite music was broadway, and I participated in lots of community theater, highschool musicals, drama and choir classes, and many singing opportunities. I went to Brigham Young University, and studied music. I was married after my freshman year, and by the time I graduated, I was expecting our 2nd child. Although I was taking music classes at BYU, I hadn't been performing at all during those years. It was soon after I graduated, that I was given a priesthood blessing which carried with it, a chastisement from the Lord, that I was not using the talents that God had given me. It was an amazing blessing, and though I had received this chastisement, I felt incredibly loved. I immediately reflected on the scripture, "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent" (Revelation 3:19). Following this blessing, which I lovingly refer to as my "kick in the rear", I began writing music in earnest. I have a terrible time writing lyrics, and still struggle with that, but I found that the music came easily. I discovered the music of David Lanz, Jim Brickman, Yanni, and others, who created beautiful music without words. I began modeling their music, and discovered a style of my own. I created my first book of piano songs for family gifts the Christmas of 1999. I called my book, "For the Love of Music... Making Time to Play". I was surfing the internet, when I discovered a website with tons of free sheet music, which was written by a Sally DeFord. I was very impressed with her website, and emailed her to tell her so. She sent me back a very uplifting email that encouraged me to start a website myself! I didn't know the very first thing about computers, but borrowed a basic HTML book from one of my husbands computer classes. This was my humble beginning. Since that time, I have created this website, written hundreds of songs, had my music performed all over the world, and created 2 CD's- one piano CD, "Little Miracles" and a vocal CD, "Thy God, My God". The Lord continues to bless and guide me, and I am blessed as a mother now of 6 children (soon to be 7!), in addition to wonderful opportunities that have led me to singing at BYU's Women's conference and having my music performed on the radio and in other venues. In all the experiences that I have had, my favorite thing is to share my testimony that I know God lives, and that He directs our lives if he lets us. I have had trials, which I would not share here, but music has blessed my life through them, and I'm grateful for those challenges. Now I just look forward to whatever happens next, knowing it will be great! I'm trying, like our prophet Thomas S. Monson encourages us- to Find Joy in the Journey..now! =) |
