Wise Men Still Seek Him Cantata
This is the program I wrote for our service Christmas Morning. If anyone is interested in coming, please use my contact page, and I’ll give you the address (in South Jordan). The download “sheetmusic” link for this page downloads the script in pdf form. Each of the individual songs can be found under the tag “cantata”. If anyone performs this cantata, in whole or part, please do leave a comment! I’d love to hear how it goes! Merry Christmas! Continue reading
Far, Far Away
One of my most favorite Christmas hymns is “Far, Far Away on Judea’s Plains”. The lyrics and music were written by John Menzies Macfarlane. C. Michael Perry helped me compose this one, taking it to a whole different place than I normally would have gone in. I love it!
The whole concept that we had for the cantata was that of wise men seeking Christ. As I thought about the wisemen, I became more and more impressed with them. I don’t know that they were shown angels and heavenly messengers. Christ’s coming had been prophesied since the time of Adam. These men obviously knew what signs to look for, and seeing them, came to be where the King was. I truly believe Christ will come again. We know a lot about what that will be like, as well as the things we need to do to prepare for that time. I hope, like the wise men did, that I will recognize those signs and come, so I can sing my praises to him! Glory to God! Continue reading
Holy Little Lamb
We read in the Old Testament about how young lambs were to be sacrificed at the hands of the priests for sins committed by the members of their congregations. Only lambs without spot or blemish could be used, symbolic of the sacrifice that the spotless Savior would make when he would come. At the time of Christ’s birth, we know that there were shepherds “keeping watch over their flocks by night”. It may have been that some of them were sacrificial lambs reserved for those special sacrifices.
When Christ came, the law was fulfilled, and the sacrament was put in it’s stead. As we partake of the sacrament, we remember our Savior’s atonement. It is through His atonement that the Savior takes away not only our sins, but also our weaknesses, sorrows, and sicknesses. We remember Him, not only as our sacrificial Lamb, but our shepherd, who continues to call and care for us. Continue reading
Below Us All
Part of my cantata, this song was written with C. Michael Perry, a multi-talented composer and friend of mine.
This song is about how Christ, who was greater than all of us, was born under the lowliest of circumstances. He did not eat with Kings and rulers, but with the poor and the lonely. The people that sat at his feet were not well known, but humble followers of Christ, who knew and understood who He was. He was born in the lowliest and humblest of all places- in a manger, but those that were seeking him, knew that he was the King of Kings! Continue reading
Be It Unto Us
When I think about Mary and Joseph, I can’t help but think of how my husband and I were as a very young couple. I was only 18 when I got married and I had no idea what to expect down life’s road.
As I wrote this song, thinking about Mary and Joseph, I wondered if they realized the honor and significance of the child they were raising. Surely sometimes, amongst the other children, and parenting responsibilities, it would be easy to forget…. but I’m sure they also had quiet moments, when they would hold their child, love him, and be in awe of him.
I am blessed to be a mother. It is a great responsibility to raise Heavenly Father’s children. I believe strongly that each of us has a fore-ordained mission to fulfill on this earth. Mary and Joseph had the honor of being Christ’s earthly parents on the earth. Are we as willing to accept our missions, no matter what they may be? Mary and Joseph said, “Be it Unto Us”. Wise Men Still Seek Him
My freshman year in college, one of my roommates (who is now my best friend) pointed out a beautiful embroidered quote that read, “Wise Men Still Seek Him”. I’m not sure who came up with it originally, but I’ve thought a lot about that quote and its significance.
The wise men traveled many years to find the young child, Jesus. “They had seen the star, and came to worship him.” I am inspired by their faith and their desire to be where the Savior was. They must have known who He was, and what He would do for them.
At Christmas time, we have the opportunity to not only rejoice in Christ’s birth, but in His life and in His ministry. His life was a gift from a loving Heavenly Father to help us to return to live with Him again. I rejoice in the day that He will return to the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I know that in that day I want to offer whatever gifts I have to him, (though like the Frankincense and Myrrh, they probably won’t make much of a difference to Him!) and will be rejoicing through watery eyes, For Jesus my Savior and King!

Living Water
This is an SATB choir arrangement of one of the songs on my mini CD, “Thy God My God”. A few months ago, someone sent me a copy of this song performed in Dutch! The (windows media file) to listen to, is the recording they sent me. In addition to the beautiful choir singing it, it was also arranged and performed with a full orchestra! As I listened to it, I just cried. I would love to hear my music performed as this one was. If you’d like to know more about the choir that performed it, please visit: www.lennertmaria.nl and www.cajchaverim.nl .
(You may purchase the English version from my CD, from CD Baby or Itunes) Continue reading
On This Father’s Day
I wrote this song last year for Father’s Day. This year, we will be singing it with our choir. It is my simple offering for not only my dad, but for all the wonderful men, father’s, bishops, and good men out there. Most of all, it’s for my Father in Heaven whom I love with all my heart. Continue reading
Precious Savior, Dear Redeemer
This is an arrangement of the hymn, Precious Savior, Dear Redeemer. Our ward choir needed a last minute song for our Ward Conference, and I decided to do an arrangement of this hymn. We only had one week to practice, so the performance was less than perfect, but hopefully our recording will help you get the idea of how it sounds like. Continue reading
We Believe
“We Believe” is a song that I wrote to go with the 2011 Mutual Theme. It’s based on the 13th article of faith. Our young women’s president told me that she wanted something about being anxiously engaged in a good cause. As I was working on this song, the words, “May my life reflect my mission” come to me. It is how I want to live my life. I hope that everything I do will reflect what I believe and what I feel I’m supposed to do.
The sheet music, accompaniment track, and demo as well as a .pdf for vocal parts-only, are available to download for free through the “Download Links” on the sidebar. There are also 2 MP3′s available through itunes (.99) in the event that you can help me to support the site. Both are available for your convenience, and so that you can perform this song with your young women. Since I have not yet had an opportunity to hear this song performed by a young women’s choir, please do share your experiences. Enjoy! Continue reading
