Far, Far Away

One of my most favorite Christmas hymns is “Far, Far Away on Judea’s Plains”. The lyrics and music were written by John Menzies Macfarlane. C. Michael Perry helped me compose this one, taking it to a whole different place than I normally would have gone in. I love it!

The whole concept that we had for the cantata was that of wise men seeking Christ. As I thought about the wisemen, I became more and more impressed with them. I don’t know that they were shown angels and heavenly messengers. Christ’s coming had been prophesied since the time of Adam. These men obviously knew what signs to look for, and seeing them, came to be where the King was. I truly believe Christ will come again. We know a lot about what that will be like, as well as the things we need to do to prepare for that time. I hope, like the wise men did, that I will recognize those signs and come, so I can sing my praises to him! Glory to God! Continue reading

Dare to do Right

One day I was just playing through some of the songs in the primary children’s songbook. I stopped at the song, “Dare to do Right”. I loved it’s simple melody and beautiful lyrics. As I played I could imagine the verses and chorus overlapping each other. I thought it would make a fun arrangement. When my choir needed a last minute song for the following week, I decided to give it a try. This song is easy to learn, fun, and I think turned out well. I would enjoy hearing any comments you might have as you perform this song in your own choirs! Continue reading

I Stand All Amazed

This song has been updated from the previous version that I had on the website. The rhythm of this beautiful hymn has been set in triplet form to help emphasize the words. The chorus remains consistent throughout the song, and the final chorus adds to the refrain with an added “Oh it is wonderful”. This added refrain has a striking harmony, which adds to the rejoicing of how wonderful it is, that the Savior suffered and died for even me. I hope you enjoy this arrangement.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

I was asked to sing this song for our Ward Christmas program. As I’ve sung through this song and focused more on the meaning of the words, this song has taken on a much deeper meaning. It has become one of my favorites! Continue reading

Rejoice, the Lord is King!

I’ve always liked this hymn, but wished that the congregation might sing the hymn with more jubilance. I tried to make this arrangement joyous! Continue reading
