Story of Faith
This song I wrote to go with our Relief Society lesson. The inspired topic was Jeffery R. Holland’s talk, As Doves to our Windows. The talk includes more about these two specific pioneer stories, and the sacrifices that were made in building the temple. I am so blessed to live near two temples! This song helps me to remember the sacrifices that the early saints made to have a temple. I know that I should never take this blessing for granted and to go often. I often think about what my Heavenly Father would want me to sacrifice for the kingdom. Continue reading
What He Sees
For a relief society lesson that we had combined with the older young women (the laurels). The instructor had all of the mothers and the daughters that were in the room come up and stand at the front. She asked us what differences we could see. Besides the obvious difference in age, there was really not much of a difference. Afterwards, she had two of the mothers with more than one child there, to stay at the front. She asked the daughters to look at their mothers and tell us what they saw. Afterwards, she had the mothers tell us what they saw as they looked at their daughters. Of course, it was very emotional and touching. After they both sat down, a mother came in the room with a brand new baby girl. She had her come up to the front and tell us what she saw when she looked at her brand new baby. It was an incredible lesson, and reminder that we are all children of God. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could see what He sees? Continue reading
An Angel Sent From Heaven, Dressed Like You
Written for a very dear friend of mine, this song is about inspirational people in my life. I have had wonderful opportunities when angels have served me and they are the people all around me, youth, visiting teachers, parents, and neighbors. On occasion, I have also had the opportunity of being that friend to others. Miracles still happen, and most often it is through the service of others. This song is dedicated to those sisters in my life that have been angels sent from heaven… to me! Continue reading
Relief Society
One of the greatest things I love about my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) is the wonderful organization of Women that I get to belong to. It’s called the Relief Society. Through Relief Society I have gotten to know wonderful women (we call each other sisters), had great opportunities to serve, and learned so much more about the restored gospel than I ever could have alone. I love all the things that women in general are able to accomplish, and this song is dedicated to these wonderful sisters. Continue reading
We Are Sisters
This song was written with the intent to help the Young Women transition to Relief Society. In one of my previous wards, a well intentioned sister had the idea of singing a “welcome” song for the new sister’s that were coming into Relief Society. The song she picked was “Getting to Know You” from South Pacific. Her efforts in uniting us were what inspired this song. (*note – added Oct.28th, 2006) This recording was given to me from the performance of the song in the Tabernacle at Temple Square. This song won an award from the Church Music competition, and was performed with a choir there. **Also, one more note, you are welcome to change any of the words to this song for your particular needs. J. Orrock had the suggestion that instead of singing “Sisters it’s our time in life, we feel that we’ve matured and soon we will be on our own so then we’ll know for sure…” to sing, ” Sisters it’s our time in life we’re trying to prepare to strengthen future families, we want to serve and care…” Any of these kinds of changes (for this particular song) are fine! One in the Son
I first composed this song for a Relief Society Sister’s Retreat with the theme of “One in the Son”. One of my very favorite things about the Relief Society, is socializing with the other sisters in my church, and learning and laughing with them.
For this particular evening, we did a slide show using pictures of many of the woman as we played this song. Continue reading
Women of God
The idea for this song came at the 2000 BYU Women’s Conference. I was sitting in the Marriot Center looking around at the thousands of LDS sisters all around me, and I just sat in awe as I thought of all we had in common as sisters. I felt compelled to write this song. I collaborated with Susan Noyes Anderson, who wrote these beautiful words. It was written intended for a larger choir with a soloist over the top on the final chorus.)
The lyrics for this song were written by Susan Noyes Anderson Continue reading
